i have a dell inspiron 8600. maybe about 4 mons ago or so i actually did a fresh re-install of the windows xp home os. this laptop has an internal wireless card which is the Intel 2200 Pro/Wireless. i’m running avg anti-virus and zonealarm pro. windows firewall is disabled. we have comcast hsi with a linksys wrt54g router.

the problem is that my download speed is getting cut short when using wireless. if i plug in via ethernet cable i can pull on average 14.5 mbps dl/ 1.5 mbps upld. but when i connect wireless i hang around 3.5-4.5 mbps dl/ 1.5 mbps upld. which is a dramatic change.

here’s my check list so far:

disabled zonealarm and avg (i know it’s just antivirus but trying anything)
tested this using a mac laptop, and another dell desktop and both are fine
gave my comp static ip
replaced my wireless card with a brand new Intel 2200 Pro/Wireless
…by the way i’m sitting in front of the router during the tests
mulled around the networking settings but couldn’t find anything concrete
updated drivers and also tried various wireless management programs

there may be more but that should be a start.

i’m just stuck guys. i really thought my old wireless card was just broken or stuck in “b” mode or something but it literally didn’t do anything after the replacement. maybe there’s a setting in the bios or something that i’m not familiar with that could cause this? any help would be great. so frustrated.

thx!

I use the html link code except I have a rollover button instead of the link there. When I go to the site and click for download it just plays it in my browser but doesn’t download it. If I try and save it, it says it’s a Quicktime Movie?? (obviously I’m a Mac user). I use Explorer 5.1 for my old Mac and Safari for my OS X one. Is it just my browser set up or my HTML?
I did turn off the plugins for the MIME and the file did come in as a download on my computer so okay, that worked for me. But, does that mean every users to my website has to do that to get the free downloads or is there some way to code it so it will just download? Could that mean setting up a special file or something on my host’s server? An FTP link or something? And I’m not a programmer, I just saw some example HTML that used FTP in it’s code. When I tried that, and clicked it wanted some login name and passwrd stuff which I didn’t know what to do let alone users to my site.

I’ve just bought a brand new macbook pro from the apple store, currently i have bootcamp installed running windows xp pro. Now, i’ve fallen in love with mac os x, and would love to use full time! But im a .net web developer / programmer so i need access to a windows enviroment! So my option is bootcamp, but bootcamp would mean i would have to reboot just to use mac os x which is disappointing and annoying! So parallel would be the answer! But is it all that its cracked up to be? Will visual studio run okay on it? Will i be able to compile nicely, and run specific .net windows app’s to develop and test? Or should i forgot about os x and use bootcamp with windows?! I cant decide, and its driving me crazy, i dont no if parallels will be worth it or be able to handle my needs! I dont use a my computer for gaming (if anyone wonders – i have a 360 for that!)

Thanks in advance!!

I just got this USB and started using it for the first time today, and I’m afraid I may have wrecked it somehow. I use a Mac OS X, which is compatible. I got a little trigger happy with loading a bunch of files at once, and then it froze, giving me the waiting color wheel. Finally, it went through. I tested the files, and they work. After that, I tried moving smaller file portions, but it got stuck again. What’s more, my computer stopped doing anything. I had to turn it off. I was concerned about the flash drive then, but when I checked it again, all the files were fine and intact except the ones it was loading at the time. I got one more folder on without any problems, but then it froze again with the next data transfer. I’ve now had to repeat this freeze/shutdown process three times. It will no longer take even a single file. It is not a storage issue, as there is still 62GB available. What’s causing the problem? Can someone please help me with this? I’m very concerned.

Also, I have DreamWeaver CS3, so I can build PHP, I just don’t know the best way to test it, and I would like to get this local server going so I can test it properly. Any ideas??? ANY info on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks!

• Certification: FCC, CE Certified and RoHS compliant

• O.S. Required: Microsoft Win98SE/Vista/ME/2000/XP Mac OS 9.0 or higher Linux

• Dimension: 5.2 x 8.4 x 4.3 inch

• Weight: 3.0 lbs

The features include:
• Cool running 1.5TB

• JBOD allows you to add capacity as needed

Now here’s the problem. When I plug it into my computer it recognizes that there is something plugged in, but won’t read the drive or make it accessible to me. In other words, if I were to go under the Remove Hardware tool, it’ll show that there is a “mass usb storage device”. However, nothing shows up under My Computer. I’ve tested it on 3 laptops, a Sony Viao, Toshiba Satellite and an HP Presario. So I know it’s not a system error.

Does anybody know what’s wrong, how to fix it or at least where I can find out what’s wrong with it or how to fix it? Any help at all would be supremely helpful. There are some really important files on there that I actually need (not want, need). Please help if you can. Thank you.

I have an issue with my web site. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, and have checked all of my settings, but I am not the best at this, so I know it is some small and simple thing to fix.

First I am using CSS in HTML format, and what the issue is, is that when I upload the web page, with all the files, images, styles sheet, everything works it is all linked perfectly, so it is my code that has an issue. When I preview the web page in fire fox for XP, it is almost perfect, but one window is not working properly, and cuts off the sides of the image, even when the pixels are to size. When I preview it on a Mac OS X, the entire page is off. and cuts my image too early, jut ruins the entire thing.

I think it is a problem with my code, but I know for sure there is an issue. here is a test link to the page the problem is at…

http://n8bog.com/test/test.html

“Please note, there are two boxes stretched out on the lower left, that is supposed to be like that”

I’m a Mac user and I want to test drive the Bootcamp feature on my newly updated Leopard Macbook. I’m not very familiar with a Windows installation- since any Windows PC I’ve used obviously comes with the OS- and I’m a Mac user. So I was wondering if anyone knew of a place inwhich I could download a trial version of Windows-preferably a version within the past 2 years.
Thank you for your time!

I recently downloaded a file from rapidshare. Before I opened it I checked using ClamXAV and it checked everything in the file and it came up clean. Then I used it to check where the file was sent and it still came up completely clean.

I still had a bad feeling and I used MacScan to check every file in my computer for spyware and it came up completely clean.

I haven’t had any signs of spyware but I still don’t like rapidshare because of the lack of security, but I had to download it.

So since both of those tests came up completely clean should I still think I have a spyware? Would I know if I had a spyware? Help please
