Why can’t I get flash player on my Mac OS X 10.3?

test mac os
Mr. A asked:

I used to have it. I have tried to download the (compatible) legacy version for 10.3. It downloads, tells me to close all browsers, and then opens Firefox (my default browser) to the flash test page, where I am supposed to get a confirmation flash but instead get a blank square. I have looked on Safari and Internet Explorer (5.2: yeah, it’s old) and nothing is playing flash. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and I’m SURE that the flash I got from Adobe is compatible with 10.3. It is a legacy, or prior copy (Flash player 9 something).

The Adobe Flash Player installer has one big fault: it doesn’t report any failure. In your case, it failed. The cause is likely to be related to permissions. Open Disk Utility and repair permissions. Reinstall Flash Player. If that doesn’t help, find these two files wherever they are on your hard drive:

    Flash Player.plugin
    flashplayer.xpt

Delete them. Empty the trash (just do it, don’t ask why). Reinstall the Flash Player. Find those same two files again.

Copy them to Library / Internet Plugins. Copy them to Users / yourhomefolder / Library / Internet Plugins. Restart the computer. Open Safari or Firefox and go to a Flash intro site to see if it works.
