need help with forwarding a port! please help talk me through it?

test mac os
Mocha Latte asked:

well im not that computer smart when it comes to this stuff so i need some help here. im following this guide:

http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/optimizing-vuze-speed.htm

and im on the forwarding ports part. Im using a mac os x 10.5.8.
i really need someone to like talk me through this or something because i really don’t want to mess anything up. so far i understand that u have to pick a port to forward and i just picked a random port because my old port: 16931 failed the test that was given of whether my port was open or not. so i picked a new random port:
port 50000. and i dont really understand whats going on until i get to the “easy way” and “preffered way” part. im deciding to do the preffered way part because it says the easy way has some security issues and i don’t want to mess up anything. but am i supposed to do something else before this because it seems like i just read a bunch of stuff and didn’t do anything.
i would love someone to talk me through this. i have an AIM to contact me so just leave yours. and btw im forwarding the port to speed up VUZE downloading. and i’ve already done the “Adjusting Internal Settings” section.
i do have a router… am i supposed to check what compony it is or something? and the router is that thing that conects my laptop to internet righT?

Ok – so you want to forward a port so you can download torrents
You normally forward ports on a router
What you did not say was – do you have a router?

If you do not have a router
Then all you have to do is go to the firewall on the MAC “control panel” and allow Vuze to get through the firewall

    If you have a router
You must access the setup screens for the router using your browser
Go to the port forwarding page
Enter the port you have selected on the Vuze setup
Enter the IP address of your Mac
Test the port forwarding using the test in Vuze
    Good Luck
