MAC Makeup questions First Time?

testing mac
Breah asked:

Okay, I am 14. & I am finally moving’ outta Middle School! So I think it is time for a new look. So I was going to try MAC makeup.. For one I am really getting tired of my other makeup… Rimmel London. So I had some questions about their makeup. & yes I understand that the price of this makeup is high. But trust me this won’t just be used as an everyday makeup.. Well, okay in a way it will be. But I also do A LOT of pageants & my mom has been dying to find me some GOOD makeup & I told her about this so she is really willing to try it. So this weekend we were planning on going to MACY’S and trying it out before we buy.. (someone said that they won’t do it unless you buy $50 worth of makeup & since I am a first time buyer I figure I will be spending OVER that much..) Anyways. I heard a lot of things about their makeup. So I had some questions..

Okay, I heard that their makeup really will make your skin break out?

I have acne free skin, plus on thop of that I use proactive when my face starts to get oily from never really taking my makeup off.

Does it work good on dry skin?

I usually have to put lotion on before my Rimmel London because my skin is dryer in some areas, but mostly because I forgot to buy my primer.

Does their makup give you a flawless look?

I love the natural flawless look! But I am not sure what foundation to use on that & powder.. I heard the meneralized is good and is light coverage? Then the studio is medium to full coverage? I don’t want a heavy coverage. Oh! If it helps I am mixed. But darker than some mixed people that look almost white.. Here is a picture of about how dark I am! http://aliceislost.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/rihanna.jpg Yes it is Rihanna. I am about as dark as her. & actually, for the truth I look about like her also. Anyways.

Is the concealer needed?

Okay, so I partly lied about my acne. I mean I am like pimple free. But I do have SOME white heads arond my eyes at the bottom outter corner. Nothing horrible like maybe one or two. Is the concealer really neeeded?

Would you recommend eyeshadow?

I am NOT a big user of it..

Eyeliners?

I have used the twist, hated it. Stick.. Hated it. & liquid. Hated it.. So I was thinking the fluid line?

Brushes?

What should I get for the powder, foundation, blush (if i even get any, which I recommend not for my skin color.), & eyeliner. I don’t want something TOO big or TOO small. But easy to work with. & I kinda think that the “Angle Free” will work good for the eyeliner.

Mascara?
& do ya recommend the primer? So they say yor lashes kinda fall out if you don’t wipe your mascara off.. & I use to do pagents when I was younder & NEVER wiped it off.. Soo.. Mine are kinda thin.

Blush?

I mean seriously should I use any for MY skin color?

Lipgloss?

Super Glass or Dare to Wear?

NO lipstick. Not on me!

Primer?

Which one..?

Um,I know this is like kinda outta order. Like it goes to like how good it works to eyeliner then lipgloss then blush.. etc. ;p But if you have anything els to say, advice or anything please let me know!! It will be apprciated, or any kinda tips or anything you use that you would recommend!

& what’s the deal with the, “Do they test MAC on animals?..”

mac makeup is amazing. it doesn’t make your face break out, and if you have them do your makeup they will tell you the products you need for your specific skin type. in my opinion, bare minerals makeup is better than mac at making an airbrushed look and covering flaws, and you don’t need any concealer with it.
for everything else, the makeup artist will probably tell you, but i do think that eyeshadow helps a lot. don’t try for the smokey eye for everyday, just get some sparkly, neutral looking colors, like browns.

-Their foundations tend to cause some to break out more than others. This is not true for everyone and it depends on your skin. I use the MAC Face & Body and I do not break out. Keep in mind that they do have quite a few different foundations.

-It depends on which foundation you get. Generally speaking, MAC’s foundations are not known to be drying. You should think more about what finish you want – matte, dewy, satin, something in between? The finish of your foundation is something you should ask the SA (sales associate) since they should know the finish of each foundation.

-Again, it depends on what foundation you’re looking at. If you use the proper application method, you should be able to get flawless looking skin. However, that also depends on how much coverage you’re looking for. Just mention to the SA that you don’t want something too heavy and you still want it to look natural.

-If you are using foundation, I don’t think you need concealer unless you have a lot of discoloration.

-You don’t need eyeshadow for daily wear, especially in high school. No one’s going to stare at your eyelids. Eyeliner + mascara alone is fine. If you want to though, you could buy 3-4 eyeshadows or get a quad (palette with 4 shadows in it) just to get a basic neutral eye.

-Sure, you could try out the fluidline. I can’t tell you for sure whether or not you’ll like it. I have it and I like it. I don’t think it’s *the best* though. I like Milani Liquif’eye (pencil) because it’s faster. It’s all up to personal preference though.

-Temptalia.com has an *excellent* guide to MAC brushes as well as a list of brushes she thinks are must-have, as well as high quality photos and reviews of each of the brushes. Of course, you could also wait until you get to the MAC counter and ask the SA – I guarantee you they will be able to recommend a full set of brushes that you’ll need. Take a look if you want to get an idea ahead of time:

-I personally haven’t tried MAC mascaras but I’ve heard that their Plushlash mascara is good.

-This depends on your skin tone and I can’t really tell you for sure. Blush is just blush though; I’m sure most colors will look fine on you, with some colors that look better than others.

-I actually recommend getting some of the Tinted Lipglasses because those come in a much wider variety of colors and you’ll be able to pick colors that will fit you better than those in Super Glasses or Dare to Wear Lipglasses.

-If you *really really* wanted to get one, I’d suggest the Skin Refined Zone or the one with SPF50. However, and this is just my opinion, they’re pretty expensive for what they are and you don’t get a lot of product for what you pay. All I’m saying is, you can live without primer.

-Don’t worry too much – MAC products are high quality and I’m sure that the things you end up getting will work great. Try to go to the counter at a time when they’re not too busy, or else you won’t get the attention you want from the SA. If there aren’t too many customers and the SA isn’t super busy, ask him/her to go through a full makeup application with you.
