Its not old, its hi-end hardware for gaming (E8500, 295GTX, 4 GB RAM and what not..)
I just bought a 1TB external HD. The quick setup guide says to simply plug it in and it should appear in My Computer, but it doesnt. (Its via USB by the way)

I tried on XP Pro, Windows 7 (new install) and Mac OS X, none detects it. I tried looking in Disc Management but its not listed when its plugged in.

Any suggestions on what I can do? Or must i simply return it.

Many of my larger files on the drive (mostly video) became “Zero KB” in size. The file is listed, but its gone because it’s reported as 0kb in size. Not all data was lost, but a good chunk.

Is this a specific problem in terms of hard drive failure that anyone has experienced? I’ve since copied over more data but am just testing the drive some more to see whats up….

AbsolutZero asked:

I have an Eagle Tech 1.5TB Hard Drive. The product specs are as follows
• Type: External hard drive

• Form Factor: 3.5”

• Hard Drive: 1.5TB (2 x 750GB 7200RPM 16MB cache each)

• Internal Interface: SATA I/II

• External Interface: Hi-speed USB 2.0

• Data Transfer Rate: 480Mbps

• Power Source: Universal Switching Power Adapter (5V/12V 2.0A)

• Power Input: 100-240VAC, 50/60Hz

• Certification: FCC, CE Certified and RoHS compliant

• O.S. Required: Microsoft Win98SE/Vista/ME/2000/XP Mac OS 9.0 or higher Linux

• Dimension: 5.2 x 8.4 x 4.3 inch

• Weight: 3.0 lbs

The features include:
• Cool running 1.5TB

• JBOD allows you to add capacity as needed

• One touch backup (OTB) with software by FNet

• Virtualization software by VMWare (30 day trial)

• User changeable 2 color bezels

• Ultra thick 2.0mm aluminum

• 6cm smart fan

• Plug-n-Play USB 2.0

• Usage: Scheduled backup & synchronization of important files between PCs

Now here’s the problem. When I plug it into my computer it recognizes that there is something plugged in, but won’t read the drive or make it accessible to me. In other words, if I were to go under the Remove Hardware tool, it’ll show that there is a “mass usb storage device”. However, nothing shows up under My Computer. I’ve tested it on 3 laptops, a Sony Viao, Toshiba Satellite and an HP Presario. So I know it’s not a system error.

Does anybody know what’s wrong, how to fix it or at least where I can find out what’s wrong with it or how to fix it? Any help at all would be supremely helpful. There are some really important files on there that I actually need (not want, need). Please help if you can. Thank you.

kylmell asked:

I have a new HP Windows 7 computer. Let’s say I want to watch a youtube.com video. It then says,”Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe’s Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.” I click, “Get the latest Flash player” and it comes up with another page saying a bunch of stuff like,
“Flash Player support on 64-bit operating systems
Issue

——————————————————————————–
Adobe Flash Player is not supported for playback in a 64-bit browser. However, you can run Flash Player in a 32-bit browser running on a 64-bit operating system.

Reason

——————————————————————————–
Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to the cross-platform compatibility of Flash Player. We expect to provide native support for 64-bit platforms in an upcoming release of Flash Player following the release of Flash Player 10.1.

Note: To participate in pre-release testing of 64-bit Flash Players see Adobe Labs.

Solution

——————————————————————————–
To use Flash Player to view Flash content on a 64-bit operating system, you must run a 32-bit browser. For details on setting this up for Windows see Microsoft Help & Support.

For details on using Flash Player on Mac OS X 10.6 on 64-bit machines, see:
Flash Player 10 and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

and

GPU mode support on Macintosh OS X 10.6

This content requires Flash
To view this content, JavaScript must be enabled, and you need the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player.

Download the free Flash Player now!”

So then I click, “Download the free Flash Player now!” and it just comes up with the exact same page AGAIN! My dad says windows 7 hasn’t come out with a flash player yet but I’m looking for other ways to solve the problem. If you need anymore information I’ll try to give it to you, I’m not very good with compurters like this one. I’ll take any advice you’ve got exect for the really stupid ones like, “Who Cares!” Because I care…..I can’t do anything without this stupid flashplayer!!!!
I want to ask “Bill” a question. Do I have a 32-bit-browser? How do I know? How do I get one? And all those good questions….

Call Me Stitch B1tch asked:

I can already see how this might go – but it’s not working so I have few choices.

I bought a white macbook (3.1) from a friend which was kitted with 1GB ram and a 80GB HDD. What I wanted was a windows based laptop, but she needed the money blah blah.
I upgraded the ram to 4Gb and HDD to 500GB. Both were bought from sellers on ebay, both stated they were macbook friendly.

The mac came with no install discs, they were ‘lost’, but having owned a macbook in the past and the optical drive breaking, I backed up a copy of OS X onto an external drive.
Trying to install it gave me the ‘You cannot install OS X on this computer’ error message and leave me up the creek without a paddle.

Eventually, I found a method of installing windows straight onto the macbook bypassing the need for bootcamp or even OSX, so I did. And everything went through fine.
I had installed a copy of Win 7, and it worked like a dream, but would occasionally freeze.
The internet would be running and all of a sudden firefox would just stop responding, everything else was still active, but would take forever to respond – for example, in that freezing state, I’d press start and go into note pad. 5 minutes later, note pad would open, but the start bar would still be up.

After a couple of days I decided to downgrade to Vista HP as I figured although the RC win 7 works fine on my desktop, on a macbook there may still be a few issues.
Vista was cool for a minute, then the same as above. I was trying to listen to a 10 minute radio interview that took the best part of an hour.

Given when using bootcamp, you are creating a whole new partition and installing windows, I cant see why having OSX installed on the machine would make a difference, but software wise, that was the only difference between this macbook and my previous one, and the previous one worked without a single problem.

So now I’m wondering if there is an issue with the RAM or HDD and I have no idea how to test what it may be.
Last night I was trying to watch a DVD and the whole thing froze up after 10 minutes. The fan eventually shut up, and the laptop just froze. If I leave it long enough, it will unfreeze – as with the interview, but my patience is already running out.
Any ideas?

No fanboy talk please.

I’m looking for benchmark info that I can hopefully put side by side and compare the two cards, though ideally I would like to find a review that has both cards tested under the same factors. Also if anyone has any experience with _both_ cards, please tell me of your subjective or objective experiences.

Basically I want to know if the Macbook Pro would outperform my current PC (AMD64 3200+ 6600GT 1.5gb ram) machine in gaming (assume they will have the same amount of ram). I found one benchmark testing all mac products against a very similar machine to mine and my machine killed all of the macs but I can’t tell if it was the processor or the video card that caused the speed– so i’d like to get info specifically on the video cards themselves.

Thanks
oh, no speculation please, I can come up with enough of that on my own. If you don’t have sources to cite with benchmarks or some standardized testing process, don’t bother posting.

I need to know how I can delete and then reinstall the video drivers for my Mac Pro. I have a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT and there is something wrong software wise. There are little lines in the image and some ghosting. i have made sure that all the settings are correct. Also I have made sure that it is not the cable or monitor. I have run the Hardware test (Extensive) and it came back clean. So I know it has to be a software issue. Any Help.

Hi, I have installed Win XP Professional Service Pack 2 on my iMAC OS X 10.4.11 – This was done using boot camp 1.3beta. I did this 6 months ago.

Yesterday, a green vertical line (from top to bottom) appeared almost at the middle of my screen. I have done my apple hardware test, reinstalled MAC OS, reinstalled Win XP and even reinstalled the latest Intel GMA 945GT Express Chipset video driver (which is supposed to be compatible – knew this after running the hardware test).

But the irritating line is still there? Any other solutions for me? Thanks a lot!
