SaGeUvAgOnY asked:

Hiya! I have purchased 3 Bluetooth dongles in the past with no problems. They are high end dongles that each have their own unique MAC address, and are the same brand and model.

Last month I decided to buy a bunch of dongles from eBay. I bought 20 to be exact. They were a dollar a piece and free shipping from Hong Kong. Yea, I knew to at least expect garbage for that price, but it wasn’t a lot of money so I figure I’d take the gamble. They are generic dime sized dongles. I wasn’t too worried if they would of be horrible quality due to their price. Just ONE of my high end dongles costs MORE than 20 of these cheap ones combined.

However, I don’t like putting all of my eggs in one basket, so I decided to buy a total of 20 dongles between 3 sellers just in case one seller had bad dongles, especially since they come from Hong Kong and takes 3 weeks for delivery.

I tested each and every one of them on my 1st laptop with my phone. Out of 20, only 1 ended up being bad. Not bad at all. They work wonderfully. Wireless range is about half to 3/4 of the high end dongles so that’s not too bad. Well I have lots of PCs and laptops in my house. I decided to install the dongles all at once after testing each one, and something weird was happening. My blackberry was getting confused as to what device to connect to. The device names were all mixed up, I’d have connection failures, etc.

I decided to take a look at the MAC addresses of each device and noticed that they are all the same! Well actually, each sellers dongle had its own MAC address. Each seller’s dongle were a little different from eachother. In other words, I have a total of 3 different mac addresses because each seller had their own generic brand/model of dongle. I am glad I decided to split my purchases between different sellers or else I would have ended up with 20 dongles with the exact same MAC address, which causes all sorts of crazy problems due to conflicts. The dongles work great on their own, but when trying to use 2 of the dongles from the same seller together, it doesn’t work due to the same MAC address.

Is there any way to change a MAC address on these Bluetooth dongles/adapters?

Hi,

I’m looking to buy a media server (probably one of the HP MediaSmart models) to consolidate the family’s media library (scattered across 2 desktops, 3 laptops, Mac and Windows). I also need to run Windows Server 2008 for a work-project I’m developing.

Media servers typically run Windows Home Server (WHS), which itself is a customized version of Windows Server 2003. Is it possible to get both running on the same machine?

I’ve googled articles that describe how to replace WHS with WS2K8, but that is not what I want. WHS will be the primary server OS and I’ll only need WS2K8 when I need to test something with a Active Directory domain.

So the question is this: can a media server either be configured to dual-boot WHS and WS2K8, or can WS2K8 be run as a virtual machine on a media server, and if so, how?

Thanks,
Roland Thomas

Hi all

I have something which i have never seen before in networking troubleshooting

Am getting undefined network when i try using internet through my LAN adapter, My OS is Vista, in xp the error is Limited connectivity

What solutions have i implemented?

1- I have format my pc with fresh OS, and problem still
2- I have RESET ip socket, RESET MAC Registry, Changing my MAC address to another
3- I have release/renew my ip several times
4- I have RESET my Linksys router to default settings (Factory Settings) , it’s already new router
5 -I have REMOVE my LAN driver and reinstall it again, i have update driver too
6- I tried to set ip to my PC Manually and this doesn’t work , still looking for ip and it takes several time trying getting an ip

Can anyone tell me what other solution that i have missed?

By the way i have searched on internet for a solution about this , and most of posts doesn’t has proper solution , all of them talk about plug / unplug my cable , renew ip .. etc.

All possible solutions i have done them, am using internet currently through my WLAN usb adapter

What i have to mention also that only this PC having this problem, its possible my Network card having hardware issue? Do there is tool for checking network card performance ‘ test ‘ it

You will help me and other people which they are looking for 100% warranted solution

Thanks
Sure i have paid my bill , how then am using internet .

i have a dell inspiron 8600. maybe about 4 mons ago or so i actually did a fresh re-install of the windows xp home os. this laptop has an internal wireless card which is the Intel 2200 Pro/Wireless. i’m running avg anti-virus and zonealarm pro. windows firewall is disabled. we have comcast hsi with a linksys wrt54g router.

the problem is that my download speed is getting cut short when using wireless. if i plug in via ethernet cable i can pull on average 14.5 mbps dl/ 1.5 mbps upld. but when i connect wireless i hang around 3.5-4.5 mbps dl/ 1.5 mbps upld. which is a dramatic change.

here’s my check list so far:

disabled zonealarm and avg (i know it’s just antivirus but trying anything)
tested this using a mac laptop, and another dell desktop and both are fine
gave my comp static ip
replaced my wireless card with a brand new Intel 2200 Pro/Wireless
…by the way i’m sitting in front of the router during the tests
mulled around the networking settings but couldn’t find anything concrete
updated drivers and also tried various wireless management programs

there may be more but that should be a start.

i’m just stuck guys. i really thought my old wireless card was just broken or stuck in “b” mode or something but it literally didn’t do anything after the replacement. maybe there’s a setting in the bios or something that i’m not familiar with that could cause this? any help would be great. so frustrated.

thx!

blah blah blah asked:

Hi.
I have this problem, I got ATT DSL 3.0Mbps internet service, which is supposed to be very fast however my browsing speed is painfully slow (I mean it, 1min + to open popular websites such as yahoo or google) and sometimes is so slow that it times out (“cant find page” error.) That happens regardless of the web browser or OS (I got 3 computers, one is a windows XP with google chrome web browser and internet explorer, and the other two are macs one using safari and the other firefox.) The downloads speed for files (300mb+ is very fast, 300kps, torrents 300kbps+, web-based speed testings say that the conection indeed is 2Mbps~2.5Mbps depending at what time or server I test it, and my brother plays WOW the whole day without problem, yet the browsing speed is stupidly slow even if nothing else than browsing is occuring)
The problems is fixed for 15-20mins every time i reset the router (which is brand new netgear with integrated DSL modem, because i thought that maybe the OLD one that i had was the prob, but it wasent) and sometimes (not lately) the conexion is just fine for hours before getting REALLY SLOW.
any thoughts?
