Bluetooth File Exchange LOST on Mac OS X?

test mac os
glammabanana asked:

I stupidly “trashed” my dock icon/desktop icon for bluetooth file exchange. I am now unable to send a file or browse a device via the menu bar bluetooth option at all. The window simply doesn’t open now. I have run both the hardware test and extensive diagnostic (D key, as advised in previous posts). So I assume it’s a software/driver issue? Correct me if I’m wrong. I’ve downloaded the latest bluetooth firmware also on the apple site although this seems to have done nothing after several reboots. HELP! My white macbook is barely 3 days old… This is my first Mac, so be gentle with me – I’m a stupid PC “ex-user”.

“My white macbook is barely 3 days old” as in you bought it used three days ago, or you bought it new? All new Apple computers have 90 days of free telephone support. Why not just call Apple and get it back to normal?

If you had a Dock icon for Bluetooth (none on my Dock, but maybe so), you can restore the Dock to original setup by deleting the preference file for it:
    Users /yourhomefolder /Library /Preferences /com.apple.dock.plist

Restart, and the Dock will look exactly as it did when you first turned on the MacBook.

If you are talking about the menu bar at the top, go to…
    System /Library /CoreServices /Menu Extras. Look for Bluetooth.menu and double-click it.
